Description
So here is the story. You get all these Big Horn Rams decked out and ready for their portrait to be shot. They line up nicely on the top of the mountain ridge in the Oregon wilderness. All seems to be going great. Then a youngster tries to sneak in for a photobomb but doesn't quite succeed. While another just comes in from the side wanting to be in the picture too. Then one that had a flower tucked nicely in his horn sees his friend beside him has a bigger flower in his horn. Feeling rightfully outraged he rams him. And what decent portrait doesn't have at least one jokester sticking out his tongue?
These are Bighorn sheep that were reintroduced to Oregon in the Pacific Northwest. They have made a great come back and are a great wildlife factor to the state.
The bighorn sheep are native to North America and named for its large horns which can weigh up to 30 lbs. Their horns are used by the males during the rut when they crash headlong into each other. The sheep can weigh weigh up to 300 lbs.
By 1900, the population had decreased to several thousand, due to diseases when European livestock was introduced and by over hunting. Luckily for all they have been brought back from extinction.
