Bannack is a ghost town in Beaverhead County, Montana Grasshopper Creek near the town of Dillon.
The town was founded in 1862 and named after the local native American Indian tribe called Bannock It was founded after a major gold discovery in July of 1862. After the discovery of gold in another area of Alder Gulch on May 26, 1863, the population quickly dropped. It's populations had reached about 10,000. Bannack did continued as a mining town until the last residents left in the 1970s.
