Description
The bald eagle latin name Haliaeetus leucocephalus is a bird of prey found in North America. Some will travel as they follow fish migration and some will remain near large bodies of open water with an abundant food supply. They nest in old-growth trees making large nests which they will return to year after year..
They are opportunistic feeders and will swoop down to steal fish whenever possible and will also fish by diving into the water to catch fish with their talons.
An immature bald eagle does not get it's tell tale white head and tail until they are sexually mature at around 4 to 5 years old. The sexes are identical in plumage with the females about 25 percent larger than males.
