Description
Portland Oregon was named after the city in Maine and began to be populated in the 1830s. One of Portland's nicknames is Bridgetown due to the many bridges that span the Willamette River. The Columbia River divides the cities of Portland, Oregon and Vancouver, Washington.
The Columbia River is the largest river in the Pacific Northwest region of North America. The river begins in the Rocky Mountains of British Columbia, Canada. It flows into the state of Washington, then turns west to form most of the border between Washington and the state of Oregon before emptying into the Pacific Ocean. The river is 1,243 miles long. It is the fourth-largest river in the United States by volume and the 36th greatest of any river in the world.
