This shot was taken amongst the Firehole River area in Yellowstone National Park. This little babe was among two babies that had swam across the river following their mothers. Luckily the river wasn't too swift as they both with a little bit of struggling made it to the opposite shore safely.
The elk is one of the largest species within the deer family in North America. Elk can mostly be found in forest and meadows close to the edge of forests. Male elk have antlers which are shed each year and grow larger with additional points. Every fall the males will bugle which is a loud series of vocalizations during the rut/mating season.
