This young Kodiak bear was just leaning back in the tall grass looking very cute and cuddly. But from seeing the size of those claws and how huge it's feet are is a good reminder that this is an apex predator. The Kodiak bear, Ursus arctos middendorffi, is the largest of the sixteen subspecies of the Brown bear. The name Kodiak bear stems from this subspecies being only found on the Kodiak archipelago in Alaska. It is believed that Kodiaks became isolated after the last ice age some 10,000 years ago.The Kodiak's coat is usually a brown color can be blonde as this young bear is.

But never pass up the chance to visit all the many other beautiful places this world has to offer. Along with all the wonderful creatures, large and small.
