Description
After a very hot, dry summer in the state of Oregon many people had gone to the Columbia River Gorge to escape the heat on a hot August Labor Day weekend. On a very iconic trail called Eagle Creek Trail that leads to a beautiful spot called Punchbowl Falls. An avoidable event took place which I won't comment on here other than to say a forest fire began due to human stupidity. The fire began on Saturday, September 2, 2017. As of today, September 8th the fire is only 7% contained and is at 34,000 acres.
The images of Multnomah Falls that were used in this image were taken prior to this fire. The high winds that drove the fire down the gorge put the historical structures in harms way. But due to the courageous firefighters that are truly heroes the lodge was saved. Multnomah Falls is the tallest waterfall in the state of Oregon in a small gorge of basalt and is a huge tourist area being close to the city of Portland. The falls drops in two major steps, the upper falls drops 542 feet and the lower falls of 69 feet which makes the total height of the waterfall as 620 feet. A foot trail winds up to the top of the lower falls and continues to the top.
