Description
There are many locations on our planet that looks like they belong on another planet or moon. Mono Lake is one of those locations with the many tufas. Incorporation of STSci/NASA images complete this vision thanks to the Hubble Space Telescope.
Mono Lake is a large, shallow saline soda lake located in Mono County, California. It is estimated it was formed at least 760,000 years ago. Because there is no outlet there are high levels of salts which have accumulated in the lake. The high levels of salts make the lake water alkaline and causes the tall tufas to form. It is truly an otherworldly sight especially at sunset and sunrise
