Description
This shot was taken in Hayden Valley during the late summer while the bison were engaging in either practice for the fall rut are actual battle.
Bison are from 5 to 6.5 feet tall at the shoulder and can weigh over a ton. They have massive shoulders and necks for shoving snow aside in the winter to get to grasses. They have curved, sharp horns that may reach up to two feet long.
And the males need this strength during the rut to battle other males. Even with their massive size they can be fast. They can run up to 40 miles an hour.
