Description
This osprey is one of a mated pair and protecting it's babies from other raptors flying over her nest. The babies are not big enough yet to be seen but when the male returns I could see the female pulling pieces of the fish off and giving the pieces to the out of sight chicks.
The osprey has many names including sea hawk, fish eagle, river hawk or fish hawk. It is very adept at fishing by using it's talon to snatch fish out of the water. They are very diligent at working as a pair after they have created a bond. One will stay at the nest defending their young while the other fishes and returns with either a whole fish or one it has snacked on first.
