Description
The trumpeter swan found in North America has made a remarkable comeback after being on the brink of extinction. By 1933 there were fewer than 70 wild trumpeters. An aerial survey discovered a Pacific population near the Copper River in Alaska. After careful reintroductoin the wild population was restored to a population over 46,000 birds by 2010.
The Trumpeter is the heaviest bird native to North America with a wingspan that may exceed 10 ft.
