Description
These are Bighorn sheep that were reintroduced to Oregon in the Pacific Northwest. They have made a great come back and are a great wildlife factor to the state.
The bighorn sheep are native to North America and named for its large horns which can weigh up to 30 lbs. Their horns are used by the males during the rut when they crash headlong into each other. The sheep can weigh weigh up to 300 lbs.
By 1900, the population had decreased to several thousand, due to diseases when European livestock was introduced and by overhunting. Luckily for all they have been brought back from extinction.
